Über das Spiel
„Max Payne 3“ ist ein Third-Person-Shooter, in dem der Spieler in die Rolle der Titelfigur Max Payne schlüpft. Eine in „Max Payne 3“ neu eingeführte Funktion der Serie ist das Deckungssystem, das es den Spielern ermöglicht, sich einen taktischen Vorteil zu verschaffen und Schaden durch Gegner zu vermeiden. Um in der linearen Handlung voranzukommen, müssen die Spieler in den einzelnen Levels gegen Gegner antreten. Das Spiel bietet interaktive Zwischensequenzen, die nahtlos in das weitere Gameplay übergehen; es gibt keine Ladebildschirme zwischen Gameplay und Zwischensequenzen.
