Dying Light é um jogo de ação, sobrevivência e terror em primeira pessoa, ambientado em um mundo aberto vasto e perigoso. Durante o dia, os jogadores percorrem um extenso ambiente urbano assolado por um surto violento, vasculhando o mundo em busca de suprimentos e fabricando armas para se defenderem contra a crescente população de infectados. À noite, o caçador se torna a presa, pois os infectados se tornam agressivos e ainda mais perigosos. O mais assustador são os predadores, que só aparecem após o pôr do sol. Os jogadores devem usar tudo ao seu alcance para sobreviver até as primeiras luzes da manhã.
