『Doom』（2016年）の前日譚となる、シングルプレイヤーのファーストパーソン・シューティングゲーム。暗黒の中世世界「アルジェント・ドゥヌール」を舞台に、プレイヤーは「ドゥーム・スレイヤー」を操作し、前作のようなアクロバティックな機動性よりも戦略的な戦闘を重視した、地に足のついた重厚な戦闘スタイルで戦いを繰り広げます。 本作では、ブロックや受け流しを行う「シールドソー」や、新たな近接武器、サイバネティック・ドラゴンや巨大なメカなど、操縦可能な乗り物が導入されている。ストーリーはスレイヤーの起源に焦点を当てており、カットシーンの拡充やキャラクターの深掘りが図られている。
