本作では「オープンコンバット」が導入され、プレイヤーはシングルプレイヤーミッションへの取り組み方において、より多くの選択肢を得ることができます。マカロフが新たなキャンペーンの主要な敵役として再登場します。
新たに導入された「キャリーフォワード」システムにより、プレイヤーは『モダン・ウォーフェアII』での進行状況やインベントリを引き継ぐことができます。マルチプレイヤーファンには、発売時点で16のマップが用意され、その後も少なくとも12のマップが追加される予定です。ゾンビモードも復活し、これまでで最大規模のゾンビマップが提供される見込みです。

- NOTHING ripped, NOTHING re-encoded
- Selective Download feature: you may skip downloading and installing of optional language packs (English, Arabic, Thai, Simplified & Traditional Chinese support is included by default), Zombies/multiplayer modes files and bonus soundtracks
- To start Zombies mode, multiplayer/zombies files must be installed. Run the MP desktop icon, click on the Local Multiplayer button, DO NOT create session yet. Press RIGHT CTRL + Z button and wait until background will change to reddish colod. Then you can select maps and Zombies mode options. Read instructions below for more info on the mode and bugs in it
- Significantly smaller archive size (compressed from cumulative 174.8 to 38.7~102.5 GB, depending on selected components)
- Installation takes from 20 minutes (campaign only in English/Arabic/Chinese/Thai, 32-threads CPU) up to 3 hours (all components and languages, 8-threads CPU)
- After-install integrity check so you could make sure that everything installed properly
- HDD space after installation: up to 174.8 GB
- Language can be changed in “sp23\steam_settings\configs.user.ini” (for campaign) and in “steam_settings\configs.user.ini” (for zombies/multiplayer)
