『アラン・ウェイク』は、レメディ・エンターテインメントが開発した心理ホラー・アクションアドベンチャーゲームです。物語の主人公は、執筆スランプに陥ったベストセラー・スリラー小説家のアラン・ウェイクです。彼は環境を変えるため、妻のアリスと共にブライト・フォールズという小さな町を訪れます。到着して間もなく、アリスは不可解な状況下で姿を消してしまいます。
アランが妻を探し回る中で、自分が書いた記憶のないスリラー小説の原稿を発見する。その原稿に描かれた出来事が現実として現れ始め、アランは闇に操られる「テイクン」と呼ばれる敵対的な超自然的な存在と対峙することになる。 ゲームプレイでは、ブライト・フォールズを探索し、光を使ってこれらの闇の勢力と戦うことになる。ストーリーラインでは、現実と虚構というテーマに加え、文字が持つ影響力についても掘り下げられている。
